Found and Adopted a Stray Feral Cat | New Years Day Present

•January 30, 2010 • 2 Comments

Interests – Animals

Pepper

Pepper found cat

On New Year’s Day my Mum and Mike found a stray cat, it was hot, thirsty and hungry. It had no collar either, so they took the cute soft meowing cat home. The next day when the shops and vet opened they took the cat to the local vet to get a check out and also to see if someone had reported it missing, but there was nothing on their records and the vet had a look he said that it was around 6 or so months old and had no microchip on it either.

So being an animal and cat lover I heard about the cat and I said that I was only too happy to keep it or look after it until an owner was found, although I had a big problem, I already had a two year old cat that was a bit timid, soft and slightly over loved as he was over weight too hehe. So the true test would be to see if I could get this new cat and my old cat to adjust and not kill each other as it’s not always easy to put two older cats together, especially I had no idea of the back ground or history of this new cat, not knowing if it had been used to other cats, dogs etc and the vet had mentioned as the cat tried to rip his arms off, that he was feral and had been loose for a Long time. My old cat “Jasper” had never had another cat or dog around so things could be very interesting around my house now on!!

So over the next few days and weeks I had to slowly introduce the old cat to my cat Jasper, which was a very slow process and on top of that was keeping two cats in separate areas, giving both cats time with me alone, also to make sure Jasper was ok and happy and that the new cat got used to and liked me too, which can be a hard thing as apparently cats are different to other animals or dogs that they pick you and not the other way around, so if a cat doesn’t like you they can run off and find a more suitable home, and that’s not that you are a bad person, but just like humans if your not a good match with their personality and temperament it’s not going to be an happy home or cat.

The cats met through glass doors then fly wire then from chicken wire as I have an outdoor cat area that a friend built for me a few years back. I started to leave Jasper outside as he is used to that and the new cat in the outdoor cat area and the cats seemed ok after a while, a few hisses were exchanged but nothing too serious which I was happy about. I used http://google.com.au some info on introducing two cats together and got some advice from friends also so I had been doing the right thing but was still going to be a slow process.
After about 19 days of this Mum and I decided it was time the cats met face to face in a room, so with brooms, air freshener sprays (they seem to hate the sound when spray’s used), buckets of water and towels we put the cats together and we were happily surprised the cats just had a bit of a hiss but were ok together, no fights and no blood or rushing to the vet. So after repeating this a few times and for longer periods and then we left them alone they still were ok and got better and better each time until they were playing chasey around things.

I have now named the new cat “Pepper” and can report that they are now both outside during the day and with each day both cats are getting calmer and friendlier, I have still been having them sleep alone but soon will try to see if they can both sleep in the garage as then I can have my Laundry back and not so much hassle, time and cleaning up after them.

So the hard work, being patient, it now looks like I am the proud owner of Pepper and he is such a sweet cat, still a little feral but you can call it attitude and he gets on well with Jasper and I now, even sitting on my knee for a cuddle each night. I am also happy we helped a stray feral cat out from maybe not such a nice start in his life and hope that he enjoys living in his new home and has made a new cat friend Jasper hehe.

This is dedicated to all cat and animal lovers..

Thanks for reading this blog and feel free to comment on this blog, read another blog on here.

One of My Interests……V8 CARS – old & new

•January 22, 2010 • 1 Comment
1977 Pontiac Trans Am, classic, cars, Interests, Cars, Racing, Rally, Natalie McNamara, Creative Web Concepts

1977 Pontiac Trans Am, classic hot car

On my time off (not that I have had allot of that lately, hehe), but one thing my family and friends know about me is, that I love Fast V8 cars and rally driving too. Not sure where it all came from but having an older brother and dad that liked fast cars probably helped this influence. As I grew older, this interest grew and then having a few boyfriends who loved V8’s too helped keep my interests in them.

When I was little, It started with match box cars of Transam’s, Lamborghini’s, Corvette’s, Porsche etc. With my Dad having an Alfa Romeo for a while (until he rolled it down a street, where I’m living now hehe) luckily he walked away from that smash, the car was not as lucky though. I liked the old American Muscle cars, then I got into the HOLDEN’s and HSV’s. I also liked the old – Manaro’s, XY, GTHO Falcon’s, Torana’s, Ford Coupe’s, Brock and HDT Commodore’s, I had a boyfriend at the time who liked to buy old V8’s fix them up and get them looking HOT and running FAST and well, then sell them from time to time, so I got to drive most of them, so that was fun!

I brought my first V8 which was about my fourth car that I had owned from getting my Driver’s Licence, but I finally convinced Mum that I would drive it responsibly and remain in one piece, which was a VL Calais 5Ltr, which I got lowered and changed the rims and tyres on it, it was a reasonably fast car and being my first V8 not a bad one to start with and for me being a GIRL hehe. I then sold that after a few years and brought a VN Calais 5.7Ltr which had a chip in it, think it was an x cop car, so that was a good step up at the time and I had that for a few years then sold it.

I then had a normal (girls car! Doh) then got sick of that pretty quickly and brought a VR HSV Senator 215kw, which was my baby, I still had another other car at the same time, so my HSV lived under covers all clean during the week, I would take the covers off on the weekend, go for a burn to Fremantle or Cottesloe down the coast, sometimes taking my girlfriends and occasionally taking off fast from the lights to give them a thrill, which they encouraged here and there!! Hehe and of course I was only too happy to oblige!!! Lol.

I had this car for a number of years but ended up selling it as I brought a house and didn’t have the space for two cars anymore, also it was a bit expensive having two cars and the petrol prices were going up pretty quickly back then, but I do miss that car and hope to have another V8 very soon….although I have been saying recently that my next car will be a New Jeep Wrangler 4WD (convertable) whoohoo!! can’t wait.

Later on here, I might tell you about my Rally Driving which is my other car love. I’m hoping to buy a Rally Car in the not so distant future to burn around with and maybe enter some local Rally Driving Club for some weekend fun too!!

If you have a look at my Flickr Account, see link on the side of this page………. you might see some pictures of my cars on there!!!

Thanks……

Needed Writer – Writing Great Headlines and Slogans

•November 19, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Needed Writer Website Blog Natalie Mcnamara

Paper Pens Ink Needed Writer Website Blog Natalie Mcnamara

In a great headline, a dog is never just a dog.

One punctuation mark can make all the difference. A colon can add significant meaning to the phrase “needed writer,” turning it into a want ad-”Needed: Writer.”

An expert advertising writer knows that creating copy for advertisements is much closer to composing a poem than writing prose, though this is may not be apparent at first.

Though some copy does read like a paragraph from the newspaper, passing along a few pieces of information, an advertisement is intended to do more than simply communicate. An advertising writer seeks to grab attention, deliver a meaningful message, and motivate a contingent of people to do something specific. Whether its purpose is to enlist volunteers at a soup kitchen or to sell expensive televisions, an ad must persuade people to act.

If an individual understands the message but fails to act, then to some extent the ad has failed, even if it succeeds in building awareness or establishing good will.

Of course, each prospective customer represents so many uncontrollable variables that neither the writer nor the ad is always at fault, but a great advertising writer keeps in mind that consumers rarely make purchases for logical reasons. Most people spend money for emotional reasons and later come up with the necessary logical arguments to justify their decisions: “Isn’t the picture so much sharper than our last television?” or “Did I tell you it gets 36 miles to the gallon on the interstate?

As with poetry, we know ads require a special type of reading. We’re supposed to read between the lines and pay attention to what’s been left out. The awkward syntax of the “needed writer” grabs the reader’s attention and, perhaps, piques her curiosity. An even better example is Nike’s famous “Just Do It” tag line. The folks at Wieden & Kennedy who developed this slogan sought to capture Nike’s brand and to communicate its mission, values and unique value proposition at the same time. “Just Do It” evokes an attitude or posture towards life with which Nike wanted to associate itself.

  • Great headlines and slogans become a part of popular culture and the public consciousness because they carry an invisible cargo that separates the Wall Street Journal from Macbeth. What distinguishes “Just Do It” from the slogan of that athletic shoe company that you never choose? Emotion. Nike captured an attitude with three words.

The power of “Just Do It” comes from the slogan’s spareness, or economy of language. Less is more. To have used more verbage would have been to weaken the slogan. Think about how negative space in a photograph or graphic “amplify” the focal points. A rest in a piano concerto has the same effect. A great slogan distills that brand into its essence, and each word in an ad must carry its share of the message. A word wasted is money wasted. More text can dilute, rather than reinforce, the core message. “Needed Writer” and “Just Do It” get straight to the point.

  • Regardless of where or how you’re advertising, a great advertisement makes an emotional connection with its target audience. Showing an understanding of a common desire or problem builds trust with your audience. They feel understood. When you offer a solution, they believe you and want for you to tell them what to do.

A great advertisement is more than a tool; it is a work of art.

What do you do when there is “unauthorised” use of your material???….

•September 26, 2009 • 6 Comments
Order in the Court album cover

Copyright;

Here are your options:

Get Advice QUICKLY:

It is a good idea to get Legal advice is you detect unauthorised use of or access to material on your site. Whether or not you are able to take any action will depend on whether there has been any infringement of Your Copyright or a Breach of Any other Law (example unauthorised use of your logo  that has Trade Mark Rights).

Whether or not there has been an infringement of copyright, it will depend on factors such as the following:

  • The material used was protected by copyright:
  • The use was one controlled by you as the copyright owner or exclusive licensee;
  • Less than an important part was used; and
  • There is a special exception or defence that allowed the use without a clearance.

Decide what you want:

Again, with your Legal adviser, you should decide how you would like the matter resolved and what you want from the person or organisation which has infringed your Copyright. You are entitled to demand any one or all of the following:

  • That the infringement stop;
  • That infringing copies of your material be delivered to you, or disposed of as you direct;
  • That any master copies or plates used to make infringing copies be delivered to you, or disposed of a you direct; and
  • That either you are paid for the use of the work or given the profits the infringer has made.

Contact the infringer:

If you did receive legal advice that you have a basis for your claim, and have decided what you want from the infringer, you will need to decide whether or not to try to resolve the matter by informal negotiations. Often people don’t mean to infringe copyright, they do so through ignorance of the law or carelessness. In these cases, people may be willing to settle the matter in a friendly way if they are contacted informally by the Copyright owner direct.

Court action:

    If the matter cannot be settled after you have done the above and sent a letter of demand, you will need to decide whether or not you will take the infringer to court. If you do decide to take legal action, you should have course, first discuss with your lawyer the chances of success, the likely costs and the likely award of damages.

    If you are successful in court, you can be awarded a number of remedies, including the following:

    • Damages (an amount of money to compensate for the infringement; in some circumstances a court may award additional damages if the infringement is particularly bad);
    • An account of the profits made by the infringer;
    • Delivery up of the profits made by the infringer;
    • Delivery up of the infringing articles (if the infringer is unable to do this i.e. if the articles have been sold, he or she may be ordered to pay “conversion damages”.
    • An injunction (a court order prohibiting the other party from continuing to infringe copyright).

    Other considerations:

    You should also consider whether or not you should amend any statement you have used on your site to clarify what you are and are not happy for people to do with material on your site.

    Unauthorised access to “locked” material:

    If there has been unauthorised access to “locked” material (example material requiring password access), you may be able to take legal action, under the C opyright Act, Against the manufacturers or suppliers of the circumvention device or service used to get access.

    Should the Copyright Act not entitle you to take legal action under Against the manufacturers or suppliers of the circumvention device or service used to get access, you may get a result in an infringement of Copyright or other legal remedies, such as Breach of Contract and Breach of Confidence.

    Removal of electronic rights management information:

    There are civil remedies and criminal penalties under the the Copyright Act, against people who intentionally remove or alter electronic rights management information, which are also remedies and penalties for certain dealings with this.
